I know he’s featured in a Picture of the Week before, but it can’t hurt to include Charlie Chaplin again, especially not on the occasion of his 121st birthday. Today is also Charlie Chaplin Day of Democracy, where you invited to put on a Charlie Chaplin moustache in public. This is championed by the comedian Richard Herring, whose Hitler Moustache is nearing the end of an extensive nationwide tour. I caught it in Exeter, and its an excellent show, linked together by an anti-fascist theme and the motif of the toothbrush moustache, which Herring has grown in order to reclaim it for comedy from the Nazi leader who spoiled all the ‘tache-based fun for the rest of us.
